Would you or have you ever done a “Bungee” jump? Sky dived? How about leaning over the railing on top of a cliff? Some folks have a severe fear of flying. Usually all of these things are done successfully due to… the bungee cord not breaking, the parachute opening, the railing being secured and the pilot and airplane both working as they should. Most of the time it works as it should, but every once in a while, it doesn’t. That’s why the, “What if” question enters our head and takes hold. Then we worry. Those that are willing to take the risk have enough faith in the equipment, operator and history to go for it. Faith is essentially believing without seeing. It is trusting without proof. What, if anything do you have faith in?
The truth is, all people and equipment have the potential to fail. Will they? Probably not. Can they? Is there anything we can trust 100%? Well if you believe in God and that He is NOT capable of mistakes; then the answer is yes. But do you? There is an interesting acronym for faith. It is, forsaking all I trust Him. This means to truly have faith and trust 100%, we have to leave our old life behind and deny our rights to do things our own way, (forsaking all). It also means that by doing so, we have absolute confidence in God’s sovereign plan for our lives and EVERYTHING else, (I trust Him). It is by this faith that we gain salvation, (redemption with God) see Eph. 2:8 and 9. It also brings the believer blessings. John 20:29 says: Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Do you want to gain faith?
Start praying. Read the New Testament. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” God can and does speak to us through His word in the Bible and to our spirit when we seek Him in prayer. When this happens, our faith is increased. Why wouldn’t it be? Direct contact from the creator of the universe is more than a little amazing. It is truly awesome! Want to have faith and trust God 100%? Start by trusting Him with your heart. Something to think about…
I’ve given up social media and am trying to make friends outside Facebook while applying the same principles. Every day, I walk down the street and tell passersby what I’ve eaten, how I feel, what I did the night before, and what I will do tomorrow. Then I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and me gardening. I also listen to their conversations and tell them I love them. And it works. I already have three people following me... two police officers and a psychiatrist.
Until next time, look up and smile!
